This is a very sweet block where pretty fabrics can be joined in two ways. Make the Star and set the Periwinkle Star blocks together with the diamond.
Alternatively, you can use the octagon and show off your hand or machine quilting.
When hand piecing trace around the shapes and mark dots for seam allowances in the holes provided. Use a marking tool and a ruler with 1/4" seam allowance to join the dots for your sewing line.
For machine piecing rotary cut around the shapes: the seam allowance is included. Mark a line in to the seam allowance where the four spots on the octagon appear.
To fussy cut first place the kite shape over the selected flower or print, centre as necessary and then trace or cut. The see-through fibre optic plastic allows you to "fussy cut" your prints for beautiful "Periwinkle Star" blocks.
Four kites are needed for each Periwinkle Star block: you can make each kite different or use two fabrics. Join the kites into pairs, then sew the two pairs into the block. When joining your Periwinkle Star blocks to the plain background, ensure the mark in the seam allowance is pinned and sewn at the joining point of the Periwinkle Stars (see diagram enclosed with the templates).
