Description

  • Magnetic fasteners are great for bags, totes, purses and even apparel!
  • Snaps are available in two sizes – 14mm (1/2“) and 18mm (3/4“) diameter.
  • Both sizes are available in silver, gold, black and bronze.
  • The process of attaching magnetic snaps is pretty easy.
    1. Mark the position, cut the slits for the prongs.
    2. Mount the pieces and fold the prongs. Done.

But here are some tips so the finished item wears well:

  • Always use interfacing under the snap. Centre a square of iron-on interfacing over the intended snap location on the wrong side of the fabric. Press to fuse.
  • Use the metal washers as a guide to mark your snap positions. Mark the centre of each corresponding snap position, making sure the centre points line up when they are pressed together. Then mark the small rectangular holes on each side of the centre hole. These are for the prongs.
  • Use very sharp, small scissors or a seam ripper to cut the prong holes. Keep the cut as small as possible.
  • Insert the prongs through the slits from the right side to the wrong side of the fabric.
  • Place the washer over the prongs. Use pliers to bend the prongs flat. They can be bent toward the centre of the snap, or they can be bent outward away from the snap.
  • Fuse iron-on interfacing to any surface that may rub against the back of the snap. This is on the inside of the project and will not show.
  • You can also fuse interfacing or fusible fleece directly to the flattened back of the snap for added strength.
