Jinny Beyer's Perfect Piecer, a multi-angle template for piecing perfect points. Designed to accompany Jinny Beyer's book Quiltmaking by Hand.
The Perfect Piecer is a simple tool designed to help hand quilters achieve perfect points and even stitching lines. The tiara-shaped template is not only a ruler and a miter guide but, it also includes all the common angles used in traditional quiltmaking; 90, 60, 45, 30, 22.5, 135 and 120 degrees. Simply line up the correct angle on the Perfect Piecer to the shapes you are stitching, mark pencil dots through the holes and you will know exactly where to begin and end your stitching. Join four, six or eight points with accuracy and ease! No more cut-off corners! No time wasted marking seam allowances!
Here's how it works:
1. Cut two shapes, such as diamonds, and (without marking seam
allowance) align raw edges.
2. Find matching angle on Perfect Piecer and position directly on top of
fabric, right where you will start sewing.
3. With a sharp pencil, mark a dot through hole onto top fabric only. Pin
through dot, securing two layers. Repeat, placing another pin exactly
at the angle where you will stop sewing. If desired, mark extra dots
along your invisible sewing line.
4. Sew dot to dot from the first mark to the last. You will sew an exact
¼" seam allowance-and-when six or more diamonds are combined to
make a star-you are guaranteed a perfect point!
Bonus! Use Perfect Piecer to precision-check every angle you cut and sew.
Use the 45-degree rule to mitre prefect corners!
