If you are picking up this book, chances are a baby is arriving soon in the life of someone special to you. It may be a family member or dear friend; perhaps your own life is about to be wonderfully changed by the arrival of a child or grandchild. Can you imagine a more delightful way to welcome a baby into the world than with a snuggly quilt made especially for the anticipated arrival?

I remember well my daughter's famous CC (babou, snuggly, blankie). It was loved and used and basically ended up a colorful wad of cotton with a string long enough to poke in her ear at night. Eventually, the CC was passed along to the cat, who loved it equally well. (To preserve my daughter's dignity, I refuse to say at what age this transfer occurred!) My son also had a blankie, made for him by the mom of my college roommate. He loved that blankie to pieces. I still smile at the memories of both of my children so wrapped in love.

Perhaps you are new to quiltmaking and are taking this blessed life event as an opportunity to try your hand at this beloved craft. The timing couldn't be better (and don't be surprised if you quickly become attached to colorful patches of fabric and snippets of thread!). Perhaps you are an old hand at quilting but are simply looking for a quick and easy quilt to make. Either way, this book is chock-full of darling choices for baby's quilt.

Each quilt is straightforward and easy to construct. All were designed to be made in a timely manner - that is, rather quickly - so the mom will feel relaxed letting baby use and love it with "enthusiasm."

You'll notice the "binkies" (pacifiers) that accompany the instructions for each quilt. These indicate a suggested level of skill for the quiltmaker. One binky signifies a super-easy, beginner-friendly quilt. A three-binky quilt might be better saved for a quilter with a bit of experience under her belt. Whichever the case, you'll find none too difficult to tackle if you take your time and follow the step-by-step, generously illustrated instructions.

One final note: Often quilt books featuring baby quilts are an announcement (spoken or unspoken) of sorts from the author. I must stop any rumors immediately - neither my kids nor I are expecting! (The former would definitely be preferable, but only at the appropriate time.) In the meantime, babies are popping up in my life these days, and I have found great joy presenting the moms-to-be with quilts intended for use and love. My wish for you is that a similar opportunity in your life brings you as much happiness and joy.
